ELLINGTON SWEET 16 FESTIVAL: SIXTEEN YEARS OF SWEET JAZZ

Eric Ajaye, the voice of ABC Jazz Legends, originally hails from Los Angeles and has played with Freddie Hubbard, Bennie Maupin, Taj Mahal, Nancy Wilson, Joe Williams, recorded with Chaka Khan, Bill Cosby and many more. Eric was also involved in the television, film and recording industry in the U.S.
Mike Nelson has performed with many jazz internationals including Milt Jackson, Mark Murphy, Red Rodney, Lee Konitz, Phil Wilson and Ritchie Cole. His quartet represented Australia at the 1988 Indian Jazz Yatra and in 1990 he was awarded the major Creative Development Fellowship from the WA Dept for the Arts.
The duo “Time Within” was formed in Canberra in 2000 when Eric Ajaye and Mike Nelson began teaching at the Australian National University’s School of Music – Jazz. During that time they were featured in the 2002 “Jazz In The Band Room” concert series featured on the nationally broadcast ABC “New Music” program recorded live at the ANU School of Music.
“Time Within” has since performed at a number of jazz concerts and festivals in New South Wales, ACT and Victoria. Longtime friends and collaborators, Eric and Mike are reunited here in W.A to celebrate The Ellington Jazz Club’s 16th anniversary!
