ELLINGTON SWEET 16 FESTIVAL: SIXTEEN YEARS OF SWEET JAZZ
20th February – 2nd March 2025
For a whopping 16 years up until the pandemic, THE FIX ran a legendary Thursday night jam session in Perth, so it’s only fitting that they’re on hand to help celebrate The Ellington Jazz Club’s very own sweet 16th Birthday Festival, and on a Thursday night, no less!
The quartet — featuring founding members Ricki Malet (trumpet) and Chris Foster (piano), and long-time bassist Nick Abbey — return to the Ellington stage with a very special guest: the wonderful drummer Giane Hladin, who recently returned from studying in the USA.
This will be an energetic, celebratory show filled with great vibes. Kicking off with a feature set of hard-bop infused classics, the band will then open up the stage in the second set for a jazz jam session.
There have been drop-ins by national and international jazz luminaries at previous sessions (such as Aaron Choulai, Alex Norris, Troy Roberts, Linda May Han Oh, Sam Anning, Emiliano Sampaio, Carl Mackey, Brandon Allen, Mat Jodrell, and Mariel Bildsten, to name just a few), but the band has also loved collaborating with a whole host of emerging musicians – so, best of both worlds!
If you want to join the band, don’t be shy – bring your instrument, have some tunes in mind, and jump in for a fun hit! Otherwise, sit back, relax, and enjoy your Thursday Night Fix! Win-win, either way!
Seating for this event is unallocated.
