The Ellington is thrilled to introduce our Perth International Jazz Festival headliner, The West End’s King of Swing, Joe Stilgoe (UK)!

“Musical virtuosity with a swashbuckling stage presence” The Guardian

An internationally acclaimed singer, pianist and songwriter, Joe’s live shows are a mixture of virtuosic musicianship and breathtaking theatricality, combining on the spot improvisation and the quickest of wits! Five of Joe’s nine albums have topped the UK Jazz chart. He has created award winning shows for the London Jazz Festival and performed with The Metropole Orkest, The John Wilson Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Big Band, Lahti Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and many more.

Joe regularly sells out Ronnie Scotts, was featured in High Society at The Old Vic, Guys And Dolls at The Albert Hall and opened the recent Olivier Awards at The Royal Opera House. His work as a composer and lyricist includes The Jungle Book (UK tour) and he is a frequent Host and Guest on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night and on Jazz FM. On TV, he has appeared most notably hosting BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year, (and least notably in Bargain Hunt)!

Check out Joe’s solo at 5 minutes and 25 seconds!

“Magnificently talented. It’s a riotous listen!” Jamie Cullum

“For Heaven’s sake! He’s amazing!” Guy Barker

He has performed for The Queen and Duke Of Edinburgh’s 70th wedding anniversary at Windsor, and has given private performances for Prince Charles at St James Palace, the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor, the Duchess of Cornwall at The Ritz in London and Prince Edward at Frogmore House.

“Dapper, handsome and quick witted…and gifted with dazzling digits “ The Times

“A very British Harry Connick Jr” The Sunday Times

“A truly remarkable singer-songwriter, not to mention outstanding piano player… I thank you for creating that most exciting of moments when, as a lover of good music, you know you have seen and heard something remarkable.” Sir Michael Parkinson

“Not since Oscar Peterson’s halcyon days have I heard a jazz piano player who could be compared to such a great artist in both technique and inspiration.” Sir John Dankworth

Tonight, on the occasion of his Western Australian debut, Joe performs in Trio, drawing repertoire highlights from a vast and impressive career.
