Join Valentina Macias as she hosts a celebration of established and rising female talent at the Ellington Jazz Club; the home of jazz in Perth, and a venue that continues to promote and support Women-led initiatives and performances.
With well over a century of history and change, the first International Women’s Day (IWD) was held in March 1911. IWD is a day of collective global activism and celebration committed to forging gender equality. This year’s IWD campaign theme is ‘Accelerate Action’ and with that it calls for urgency to address the systemic barriers and biases that women face, in both personal and professional spheres. As for women and gender non-conforming individuals in jazz, there is still a lot of work to be done in the industry to ensure that equality is present at all times.
ABOUT VALENTINA:
Valentina Macias is a jazz pianist, composer and singer/songwriter in the local Perth jazz scene. Currently studying a Bachelor of Music at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
