“Irving Berlin is the greatest songwriter who ever lived” George Gershwin
Award-winning vocalist Simone Craddock celebrates the extraordinary life and music of Irving Berlin.
From a penniless Russian immigrant to the most influential songwriter in American history, Berlin’s is a true ragtime to riches story. Across a remarkable six-decade career, he penned both lyrics and music for over 1,500 songs, scored 25 number one hits, launched the careers of Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby and Ethel Merman, and earned a Grammy, Oscar, Tony, Olivier award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. All this without reading music and playing piano in just one key!
From Puttin’ on the Ritz, Cheek to Cheek, and Blue Skies, to Isn’t This a Lovely Day, Let’s Face the Music and Dance, and of course White Christmas and Easter Parade, Irving Berlin’s prolific songbook is among the most recorded in history. This is a rare opportunity to experience this timeless body of work live, as Simone Craddock and her jazz trio celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
