Venetia Edwards – Vocals
Venetia Edwards is a versatile vocalist and performer, currently studying Jazz at WAAPA. She is passionate about the emotional aspects of music and performance, with a strong desire to create and share music that inspires and evokes an emotional response. With an impressive upper extension and coloratura capabilities, Venetia weaves thoughtful song interpretations as she hypnotizes audiences with her voice’s honeyed tone. Her voice has been described as sweet and angelic, resonating with a natural brightness coupled with crystalline clarity and vocal grace.
Born in Dubai, UAE, to South African parents, Venetia embraces a wide range of musical styles, sounds, and languages. She sings in her mother tongue, Afrikaans, and other languages including Portuguese, Spanish, Icelandic and Japanese.
Venetia has showcased her talent at various venues, including Hyde Park, for the Perth International Jazz Festival, and the Wesley Uniting Church. Graduating high school in 2022 with the Highest Music ATAR mark in her class and guided by mentors such as Patricia Alessi, Penny King, and Victoria Newton, she has honed her skills and developed a strong technical foundation.
Rio Berryman – Piano
At just 19 years old, Rio Berryman is already making an impression on Perth’s jazz scene. Since graduating high school in 2022 with WA’s highest Year 12 Music score, Rio has received two nominations in the WAM Song of the Year competition (2022, 2023) and competed as a finalist in the Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship (2024). Rio is currently completing a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) at WAAPA and has been a member of the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) for two years. Rio’s recent performances bring a modern flavour to music deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, though his performing history spans an array of genres from pop to comic opera. He has taken the stage at esteemed venues across Perth, such as the Ellington Jazz Club, Lyric’s Underground, Perth Concert Hall, Crown Theatre, and His Majesty’s Theatre.
Jack Harrison – Double Bass
Jack Harrison is a double bassist currently studying his Jazz Performance degree at WAAPA. Born and raised in Denmark, Western Australia, he started his music career in 2019 where he gained experience playing with over a dozen different local artists over the three years before he moved to Perth for his studies.
Joel Bosch – Drums
Joel Bosch is a versatile, classically trained multi-instrumentalist from Durban, South Africa, with a deep passion for contemporary jazz. Starting his musical journey at age 4, he studied percussion and drumkit before furthering his education at the University of KwaZulu Natal and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Influenced by African music, fusion, and traditional jazz, Joel blends these elements in his innovative jazz approach. A dynamic performer, he captivates audiences at various festivals and venues. Committed to collaboration, Joel strives to push musical boundaries, creating music that connects, inspires, and evolves within the jazz genre.
