KANKAWA NAGAWA

Born in the sand and washed in the ash of the desert nomad campfire in about 1943, Kankawa Nagarra lived a traditional nomadic life in the sandhills of the Kimberley until the age of eight. She has lived in many worlds from the injustice of cattle station slavery, to touring the world as a member of the Hugh Jackman Broadway show. A Walmatjarri Elder, international blues and gospel singer-songwriter, teacher and mentor, human rights advocate, and political activist, she sings in Walmatjarri, Kimberley Creole and English and other known and lost languages. Kankawa Nagarra is The Queen of The Bandaral Ngadu Delta.
