Pianist James O’Brien is regarded as one of Australia’s most exciting rising jazz talents.
James’ sound is inventive and forward-thinking, yet remains deeply connected to the rich traditions of jazz. A graduate of the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), he has shared the stage with a range of notable artists, including Kate Ceberano, Dick Oatts, Remy Le Boeuf, Jamie Oehlers, Mat Jodrell, Sam Anning, and Gian Slater.
Throughout his career, James has performed with celebrated ensembles such as the Australian National Jazz Orchestra Youth Big Band, Horizon Art Orchestra, Perth Cabaret Collective, and the WA Jazz Project, to name just a few. He is a frequent performer at festivals and events across the country, with appearances at the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Festival and the Perth International Jazz Festival, among others.
For one night only, James and his dynamic quintet will present an unforgettable evening of modern jazz. This special performance will include a preview of his highly anticipated ‘Toward Dawn’ suite, scheduled for recording in early 2025.
