The Bob Tweedie Colourful Zoo Magic Trio are coming to the Ellington stage this April. United under the vision of local pianist Bob Tweedie, these three energetic and virtuosic musicians will be exploring many corners of a diverse spectrum of sounds and influences, from acoustic modern jazz to electronic jazz fusion. Despite being close friends who have played together for many years in a whole range of musical contexts, this night will be a rare chance to hear them demonstrate the camaraderie they’ve developed over their time at WAAPA and beyond.
Expect to hear brand-new original music and a few covers they’ve made their own (Weather Report, Esperanza Spalding, Stevie Wonder), especially crafted to push their abilities, and to allow the trio’s rich and unique musical personalities to shine. The night will be filled with unexpected turns, infectious grooves, spontaneous dynamicism, and the unflappable rapport of a trio with nothing to lose. And also synthesisers.
Piano – Bob Tweedie
Electric Bass – Tommi Flamenco
Drums – Ben Shelley
